A MESSY CHURCH!
From slimy, oozy fun to getting all tied up in knots, the first Teeswater United Church ‘Messy Church’ was a big hit!
The first Messy Church began in 2004 when a group at St Wilfrid’s in Cowplain near Portsmouth, England were frustrated because, as a church, they were hardly reaching any children in the community with God’s story.
The group at St Wilfrid’s decided very early on to try to do something for all ages together, partly out of a belief that you grow best as a church when you walk the journey with as many different people as possible, and partly from a desire to help families grow together in their walk of faith, to not see Christianity as something you grow out of when you’re eleven.
And as they ...

As many know, Teeswater has been missing its Nativity Scene on the Town Hall lawn for the past two Christmas seasons. While much has been made of the ‘why’ the Nativity Scene ‘disappeared’, a committee has been formed to replace the figurines and recapture some of our traditional local Christmas ‘magic’!
To date members of the community have already come forward to donate the materials and create a new wagon and barn, which was placed on the Town Hall lawn this past season.
Working under the auspices of the Teeswater Agricultural Society (who will be storing the new Nativity Scene and insuring it!), the committee is now asking for broader community support to raise the funds necessary to replace the figurines. Unfortunately there is no Canadian distributor and these figurines will need to be ordered from Bronners of Frankenmuth, Michigan (where the original set was purchased).
As the following figures show, the price ...

Last night the ‘Reach Out and Learn’ continuing education program kicked off at Teeswater United Church!
A co-project between Teeswater United Church and indigoblues.ca, Reach Out and Learn aims to fill the adult education / continuing education gap in Teeswater and area.
The first evening seminar, titled ‘The Technology Survival Guide’ was three hours of information on how to pick the best computer for your needs and take care of it so that it works for YOU for years to come. The evening was filled with information, sometimes simple ideas we never think of, that will keep you out of technology traps that end up costing you an arm and a leg. And from the nods and smiles at the seminar we all have ‘been there – done that’ before!
The next seminar in the series, ‘All The Software Your Computer will EVER Need – For LESS Than $5′ will take place at ...

On March 8th, 2012, The Sacred Heart High School Mission Team from Walkerton consisting of 21 students, 2 teachers and 6 local adults will fly to the N.P.H. orphanage in Nicaragua.
The Mission Team will be gone for a total of 16 days living and working at an orphanage named “Casa Padre Wasson” located near Jinotepe, one hour outside of the capital, Managua.
Past teams from the school traveled to the N.P.H. orphanage in Dominican Republic. They had the opportunity to work and play with the children.
Last year, they helped in the English class, taught arts & crafts, held a fun day with games and face painting, held a BBQ and played sports with the children. The team were also able to help with outreach projects in the local villages – constructing a donated playground, helping pour sidewalks, painting, construction projects, and sorting and distributing donations.
The team expect to perform similar jobs ...

Have you ever wondered where our community will be in 139 years?
139 years ago today Canada was 5 years old (not even old enough to vote!), Louis Ducos du Hauron created the first color photograph and Louis Bleriot, the French aviation pioneer was born.
In a clearing on the southern edge of Bruce County a community group gathered together to lay the first cornerstones of Wesleyan Methodist Church and establish what would come to be known as Salem United Church.
Imagine what those first pioneers were thinking as they erected the church. Were they wondering what Teeswater and Culross would be like in 139 years? Could they imagine the changes in our world since that first beginning? In 1872, a trip to town might take days, not like our 15 minute zip to Timmy’s for a double-double!
Through the years Salem and Teeswater United Churches have been deeply involved in the history of ...

Bright sunshine streaming in the windows of Teeswater United Church this morning cleverly hid the clouds forming on the horizon of Paul’s travels!
And no sooner than the good ship Providence set sail for Rome than a mighty storm arose! Even tossing the anchor and everything on the decks overboard could not save the ship as Paul and his companions were forced to swim for shore.
Paul’s travels for this year’s Vacation Bible School have come to an end! After five hectic and event filled days the outside shelter has been packed away and tables stacked, leaving behind a host of memories, new friendships and an appreciation of all that has been the past week!
The final chapter of Vacation Bible School will occur on Sunday, August 14th at Teeswater United Church with a celebration service. Parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles and neighbours are invited to come share in this event at 10:30 a.m!

- G. Thomas Gale
Day 5 of Vacation Bible School dawns cooler, only 11 degrees on Marcy Street this morning. It’s been a long but rewarding week in many ways – not just for the children!
In all my to’ing and fro’ing, mostly getting in the way of the volunteers, it has been amazing to see the effect working with children has had on those who have given up their entire week or managed to squeeze in a few hours to help in their hectic schedule!
Vacation Bible School is as much about the volunteers as the children – about planning together, working together, sharing together to create something special. For someone like myself, ...
