I Do! I Do! I Do!

"If You Want To Be Happy For The Rest Of Your Life Never Make a Pretty Woman Your Wife! " So said Jimmy Soul in his same-titled 60's hit. I guess the blush was slightly worn off THIS rose when we got married. I was 33! Marriage is a thorny issue for many people. I really think that if you want roses, grow them yourself! Your partnership will be better if you're personally happy in the first place, well for the most part anyhow. And, like growing roses, don't muck with it too much! Don't continue with a relationship, at least not too deeply, if you think for a minute you're going to change someone. If YOU'RE the right person for THEM, they'll change in wonderful ways- mainly, improving on what … Read entire article »

Here Comes The Easter Bunny!

About 60 kids brought their parents and grandparents out to the Kinette's annual Easter Egg Hunt on the Teeswater Fair Grounds. Though it was fairly breezy today, the rain held off, the grass was green and the sun was out! I say that because in previous years we've hosted the Egg Hunt in snow and in rain. The kids love it no matter! Everybody got a treat bag and a little stuffed bunny this year. Many Thanks to Ken & Ruth Ann Scott at Yokassippi Auctions for the donated bunnies! They were a hit! Some children found a special 'silver' egg and won an even larger stuffy! The Teeswater Kinettes would also like to thank all the kids who entered the colouring contest. You can see the entries at the River Village Co-Op … Read entire article »

Friday night's supper at our house is most often pizza. If we're out, then maybe some other fare, like cheeseburgers, but pizza is still a top choice. At home, unless I've been really pushed for time or not feeling great, I'll make home-made pizza. It's easier to make than most people think, and it tastes a whole lot better than the frozen boxed stuff. …And if it didn't happen on Friday, I'm about 99.9% sure pizza will happen on Saturday! Here's a new twist though, pizza flambe! I don't mean like that one time when I forgot to remove the cardboard from the bottom of frozen pizza either. There is an annual, very popular “Pizza World Championship”. It is held in Salsomaggiore Terme, Italy. They just finished hosting their 20th and … Read entire article »

A Leap of Faith

"If you're not living on the edge, you're taking up too much space!" I love this saying,.. but now, being of sounder mind, (OK, don't choke!), and responsible for the future of me and mine, I try hard to plan ahead. This 'living for the moment' thing, this 'be spontaneous' way of some folks is not always for me. However,… I went a bit wild the other day and – BIG INHALE- I took the winter jackets and snow pants off their hooks by the back door and folded them into a laundry basket and took them all downstairs!! Gone for the season! I'm livin' the via loca now!! Talk about a leap of faith! It is early-mid April and I know a lot of precipitation can happen in the colder, … Read entire article »

No Fooling!

Hubby and I subscribe to the Kitchener-Waterloo Record daily newspaper. Our lab, Coco, is well paid for her retrieval of it for us. This is very handy in cold, rainy and snowy weather,… and especially when I'm not yet dressed for the day. It might put the neighbours off their breakfast to see me traipsing outside in my very bright pink or red PJ's! Other news sources, particularly when I want details or follow-up, are Canoe News on-line, CBC News online and the local coffee shops! The problem sometimes with subscribing to a daily newspaper is the reading of it in a timely manner. I have the dog fetch the thing early. The alternative is alphabet soup across the lawn if she gets to it without our knowing! She loves shredding … Read entire article »

I’ll Drink To That!

I've had so much fun reading about beer and wine lately! There have been some historical findings I want to share. It's hard to know where to start other than to caution that it's hard on the digestive system, and whatever else, to mix the two! I'll start with the Finns and beer! I have Danish roots so this story really grabbed my interest. Divers salvaging a 19th century shipwreck in the Baltic Sea have found 5 bottles of ancient beer! They also found 168 bottles of champagne. Some of that has been tested and identified as Veuve Clicquot brand, which is still in business. These could fetch up to $70,000 each at an auction soon. But, back to the beer! Finnish scientists at the VTT Technical Research Center of … Read entire article »

Some secrets MUST be told!! Grab your skates and the kids and the neighbour's kid and try out the outdoor skating rink at Formosa! It's west on Community Dr beside the community centre & arena. Best yet, it's free! At night there are lights on too. Bundle up. It's much softer landing when you're wearing snow pants! Friday January 21 there is a skating party from 6pm to 9pm and the food booth will be open. You see, this all started years ago for me. I think I first had real skates on in Grade 3 when Cindy Wearing, a UofA student, invited me to try on her old figure skates. She was the daughter of one of my Mom's best friends. Then, she even took me skating! That was pretty … Read entire article »

Happy New Year! Many of you might never admit this, but I'll bet a large number of us have at one time or other in our lives have consulted our horoscopes in the papers, (or on line),… Many perhaps have even gone to a psychic. The hanging up of a new calendar often stirs us to make changes, resolutions and start something new. A wish for a glimpse of 'what's to come' can be reassuring that we're on the right path as it were. As young teens a gaggle of us girls would book 'Donna' for a Saturday afternoon of tea leaf readings. We'd sit at a booth in a local restaurant chugging down strong black 'loose' tea. 'Donna' was allowed to ply her trade there. She read the tea leaves trailings. … Read entire article »
