Mayo The Force Be With You!

Summer is here and time to really ‘pig’ out on the gastronomic offerings of the fast food industry…

Taking a slice out of the fast-food market – If one company has its way, the next big thing in America will be vending machines that make and dispense pizzas. Let’s Pizza, invented by Italian Claudio Torghel and based out of the Netherlands, is setting up a headquarters in Atlanta, Ga., soon, PizzaMarketplace.com reports. A YouTube video shows the vending machine mixing water and flour, squirting out sauce from a tube, and baking the final product in about 2.5 minutes. The short-skirt and high-heel clad woman in the video says the machine uses “fresh ingredients” and the pizza has “total hygiene” because nobody ever has to touch it. I am wondering what it would be like to clean this puppy when it malfunctions…

Bacon for when yer bakin’ – Burger King is upping the ante this summer by introducing a new bacon sundae. On Tuesday, the fast food chain  introduced the new menu item – featuring real bacon bits on soft vanilla ice cream.Burger King has no plans at this time to offer this cool summer treat in Canada. Ahh the sound of arteries slamming shut on the beach…

Hold (up) the mayo - Police in South Australia say they’re searching for thieves who stole 93 lbs. of mayonnaise from a refrigerated warehouse on Saturday. Two large tubs of the spread were stolen from a business in Whyalla, about 380 km north of Adelaide, police said. Police are puzzled by the theft and urge anyone who has heard of people making large amounts of coleslaw or potato salad to call investigators. Maybe they are making the world’s largest BLT?

I think I will stick with Apple Fritters – According to the Christian Science Monitor, Dunkin Doughnuts is expanding their eponymous offering’s image,  launching a savory doughnut stuffed with shredded pork and seaweed. So far, the pork doughnut is only available in Asia. I imagine this will do well with the bacon sundae above but seaweed? that’s ALMOST healthy…

Haute cuisine goes to the Dark Side – Leave it up to the French to have the last word in food. The French fast food chain Quick offered a “Darth Vader burger,” complete with a black bun. The burger was part of a promotion for “Star Wars: Phantom Menace 3D.” The promotion also included a Darth Maul burger with a bright red bun, as well as a Jedi burger, with a regular bun. Wasn’t Princess Leia wearing those buns?…
