Boobs On The Boob Toob

We live in a world of instant titillation (no pun intended) with gory news, double entendres on kids shows and the occasional ‘equipment malfunction’ during the Super Bowl.
Today is no exception, obviously a slow ‘hard’ news day. All over the wire services and web websites is a story out of Thailand about Duangjai Jansaunoi, a contestant on the ‘Thailand’s Got Talent’ weekly telecast. Now other than a hard to pronounce name, what is this young lady’s claim to fame you ask?
Well, it seems her ‘talent’ is being able to paint with her breasts. Not house painting mind you, that might take weeks and certainly would be like watching paint dry (pun intended) for young Thai’s with a channel changer in hand. No, Ms. Jansaunoi paints pictures of people, or at least that is what I think they are – somewhat abstract for my taste.
But her ‘performance’ on national TV has caused quite an uproar, with even the Thai Culture Minister investigating and threatening action against the network. Culture Minister Sukumol Kunplome said Monday that nudity on television is not considered appropriate in Thai society. She said the show’s producers have been summoned to explain why the segment was broadcast and the ministry will then decide whether to take action.
Ok, fair enough, Thailand only has 6 major television stations (according to Wikipedia) and Thailand’s Got Talent is perhaps the most popular program in the country. But what about the rest? According to Thai data 40% tune in primarily for News and only 0.2% for documentaries.
It has been 20 years since Gwen Jacobs doffed her top on the streets of Guelph in the name of ‘equality’. The laws here have changed but I have to admit in the 6 years or so since I moved back east I have yet to see anyone take advantage – male or female! Certainly I am not going to strut down Clinton in a pair of shorts and little else – where would I put my pocket protector after all?
The real point being missed here in the rush to titillate about titillation (pun intended this time) is how low we have stooped in the name of ‘entertainment’ and how much lower we have stooped in reporting about entertainment happenings.
By the way I couldn’t find anywhere if Ms. Jansaunoi won or not, certainly the biggest boobs of the night were those reporting the story and not the ones doing the painting.
