A New Nativity Scene for Teeswater

By (Feb 3rd, 2012)

As many know, Teeswater has been missing its Nativity Scene on the Town Hall lawn for the past two Christmas seasons. While much has been made of the ‘why’ the Nativity Scene ‘disappeared’, a committee has been formed to replace the figurines and recapture some of our traditional local Christmas ‘magic’!

To date members of the community have already come forward to donate the materials and create a new wagon and barn, which was placed on the Town Hall lawn this past season.

Working under the auspices of the Teeswater Agricultural Society (who will be storing the new Nativity Scene and insuring it!), the committee is now asking for broader community support to raise the funds necessary to replace the figurines. Unfortunately there is no Canadian distributor and these figurines will need to be ordered from Bronners of Frankenmuth, Michigan (where the original set was purchased).

As the following figures show, the price has escalated since the original set were purchased (prices in American dollars):

  • Nativity Starter Set – $2180
  • Kneeling Shepherd and Sheep – $1230
  • Standing Boy and Lambs – $1140
  • Donkey – $495
  • Cow – $495
  • Hovering Angel – $300

If you are able to help financially the committee (and our community) would be very grateful!  Cheques can be made out to the Teeswater Agricultural Society, who will provide an income tax receipt, and then mailed to the Teeswater Culross Nativity Scene Committee, c/o Jean Culliton, P.O. Box 69, Teeswater ON, N0G 2S0. The goal is to raise enough funds by June 1st, in order to have the new Nativity Scene in place by next Christmas!
