AND THEY'RE OFF!!! To school that is…

After 70-some days of freedom, children everywhere are trudging down the road with new pencils and books stuffed in brightly coloured backpacks. And parents are sneaking that extra cup of coffee, with a mixture of relief and trepidation on their faces!

For us this is a milestone year as our youngest starts fulltime school! Holy Schmoly the house is going to sound quiet! All weekend long he has been bouncing around the house in his new backpack, counting the sleeps and helping label all the new goodies he will be taking to school.

The start of the new school year is always exciting. New schools, new friends, returning old friends, new classes and teachers! And in the rush to school many of our children, especially the younger ones, will not be paying as much attention as they should. That means we have to be extra careful on the highways and streets! Take the extra time this morning, maybe leave a few minutes earlier, but mostly be aware of the kids jumping out into traffic or wandering across the street to talk to friends. AND DEFINITELY WATCH FOR FLASHING SCHOOL BUS LIGHTS!

In a few days everything will settle down and we can get into our fall routines. In the meantime I think I will just grab an extra cup of coffee and stand on the porch watching the kids going by.

And smile!
