Where’s My Mummy?
By: Lynne Frank (August 13, 2010)
I was going to let this go, but I keep coming back to it!,…. If getting older doesn't scare you a little, this might get you started! Recently in Tokyo, Japan, authorities realized they'd lost track of their oldest inhabitant, who would have been 111. Police searched the man's residence and found his long-since deceased mummified body. He probably fell asleep watching reruns of Gunsmoke. "Hazatakki Hoss! Rook at that horse!" Worse yet, it seems he has been in this state for about 32 years. Further into the case police concluded that the late Mr. Sogen Kato's family is being questioned about abandoning him and collecting his pension,… Talk about elder abuse!
Police also started a search for a lady, Fusa Furuya, born in July 1897. It was discovered she doesn't live at the address 'officials' had on record. Her 79-year daughter thought she was living with her younger brother and lost touch. That address is a vacant lot. The brother and another sibling are being questioned.
See, there's an annual holiday coming up in September. It's the Respect-for-the Aged Day that honours the elderly in Japan. In rural Ontario we call it Old Boys' Reunion, but only hold one every 10 years. Officials in Japan apparently haven't updated their files for,… decades. And yes, there are other centenarians unaccounted for due to poor record-keeping and what many fear as the weakening of family ties and traditions.
And so, the moral here is if you're experiencing any signs of Alzheimer's, perhaps it would be best not to retire there.
Take a wee sprite of an Alberta girl, a few years on the open road in an 18 wheeler, a small Ontario town, a rambunctious Chocolate Lab, stir briskly and well… Frankly… you get Lynne Frank's take on life in the Teeswater area. Between operating the skein winder at breakneck speed and learning how to knit (not to mention searching high and low for the perfect Band-Aid) Lynne shares her favourite recipes, tips on playing a 'killer' game of Euchre and thoughts on just about anything that piques her interest.
