Just received this from Myron McKee – The Teeswater River Cleanup is a Go again as part of a National effort that is now in its 17th year!

per the National promotion…  "The Vancouver Aquarium and WWF-Canada join forces on The Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup.

Vancouver Aquarium and WWF-Canada are pleased to announce a formal partnership to grow the Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup direct action conservation program—the largest shoreline cleanup program in Canada and third largest in the world. Through the conservation partnership, the Vancouver Aquarium and WWF will work together to expand the Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup to many communities across Canada.

The Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup is also proud to welcome its 2010 presenting sponsor, Loblaw Companies Limited, as well as national sponsors, The Home Depot Canada Foundation and Molson Canadian. Sponsors help to broaden the program’s reach to engage more Canadians to take direct action in keeping our shorelines clean."

The Teeswater River cleanup will start on Sat. Sept. 25 at 9:30 AM, meeting at Budsteel (29 Gordon Street E.)  **NOTE THE DATE CHANGE**

I have called this effort…. The ‘TREE’ – ‘Teeswater River Environment Effort’

Here are some initial details for this year’s cleanup:

  • Get a Free ‘I love My Shoreline’ T-shirt ! For the first 20 adult participants and five youths!
  • We will again cleanup within the boundaries of Teeswater.
  • Other crews will start where we left off last year at the 10th Concession and go down river.  Last year we covered 10 km.
  • I am hoping to get support again this year from Bruce Resource Stewardship Network and the Saugeen Conservation.
  • A newspaper ad will appear prior to and after the event.
  • I will need help to post posters around town.
  • Like last year, cleanup crew will get latex gloves, bags and a Data Card to track our progress.
  • Other items this cleanup event may/will need are Canoes and hip waders.  I am thinking that the use of an ATV or two maybe helpful if a crew happens upon a difficult item.  Even a raft would be helpful.
  • Having a special handling crew on stand by with the resources to retrieve heavy or difficult to get at items, would be helpful.
  • The use of a canoe or raft will be more useful then last year, as we move down river into deeper water.
  • I am still trying to obtain some leadership for a similar effort from Paisley residents, to work up river.  If you have any contacts from Paisley or Chepstow that maybe interested, let me know ASAP.
