Most people don’t realize that arm wrestling is a professional and growing sport in Ontario. It is a sport between two competitors on a regulated table with pads and hand pegs. It has licensed referees that have been properly trained in the sport on the rules and safety precautions. The two competitors grasp hands and hold onto their hand pegs and get ready to pull. Ready, Go – starts the match. They pull, grunt and holler. And its over – Winner!!
Allan Aubin first got into competitive armwrestling in 2000. Since then he has competed in tournaments throughout the province. He is the head of a growing armwrestling club in Teeswater – Teeswater Thunder. He has recently started to put on tournaments in western Ontario and has helped increase the number of pullers in the area.
Teeswater Thunder formed a team in 2007. Al Aubin is the Vice President of the Ontario Arwrestling Association and also Team Captain for the Teeswater Team. Teeswater Thunder recently took Team of the Year at the Ontario Armwrestling Provincial which were held in Toronto in June. This has been the third year running for the team.
This years team members include Al Aubin, Shea Dickie, Jeff Oosterveld, Rob Hancock, George Gottchaulk, Linda DeGroot, Steve Noonan, Eric Furness, Menno Klunder and Braden Riehl.
Al and a fellow armwrestler received the Iron Man award for most sanctioned tournaments attended. Shea received Male Puller of the Year. Teeswater Thunder also received an award for Region of the Year for Western Ontario. They also have received this award for the third year in a row.
Teeswater has become a strong and growing team. They will continue to defend their title for the years to come.
