In case you were thinking I am ant-Facebook I decided to focus this time round on some of the good things happening on Facebook.
Sure there are risks involved in using social networks like Facebook and Twitter but not to the point where you need to cancel your membership or unplug the computer. And even though I have been biting my tongue this week at ALL the people on my networks who persist in advertising to thieves that they will be away (many with the EXACT hours and days!) there are some really excellent things happening on Facebook.
Interested in fishing? Teeswater's own Sam P. has started an excellent group on Facebook called 'I'd Rather Be Fishing!' dedicated to connecting fishermen (fisherwomen and fisherkids as well!) all over the world. To this point in time they have about 3200 members, quite a number of whom live in our area.
Are you an artist? Canadian Artist Association is a group founded to help Canadian artists of all type – painters, photographers, sculptors, musician, actor, even wannabees like ME – with information about upcoming events, artists grant programs and general lobbying for the arts in Canada. As we all know the arts in Canada are under attack and now it is becoming critical that we organize!
What do 58,000 people on Facebook have in common? Well for starters they have discovered 'Life After Windows' courtesy of the wonderful Open Source operating system Ubuntu Linux! If you are interested in taking the plunge or simply looking to find out what Ubuntu is all about, cmon in and join the Ubuntu group on Facebook!
What would a list of what's good on Facebook be without a little self promotion? It only took me 20 years of graphic and digital design experience to finally figure how to setup a page on Facebook! On Digital Twilight you will find examples of my current and recent past works, as well as information on new art I will be selling on my Internet galleries.
Politics, religion, Toronto Maple Leafs bashing, no subject on Facebook is without either a group or fan page, many of them informative and just plain fun! Facebook is about social networking after all, and most groups and pages are worth at least a visit.
Just remember, Safety First! I still want to hear about your awesome weekend at the beach – AFTER you get back!
