The Torch Arrives!Photos by Lynne Frank

Treacherous roads lay ahead for anyone braving the elements to reach Walkerton for the once in a lifetime experience of the 2010 Olympic Torch passing on its way across Canada to Vancouver.  And once in Walkerton the expected delays occurred as hardy runners slipped, slided and mushed their way along the highway, ever holding the torch high, its flame reflected in the faces of children and adults alike.

When the torch reaches Vancouver for the opening ceremonies of the XXIst Winter Olympiad, 12,000 runners will have carried the flame 45,000 kilometres over 106 days.  Simply an amazing feat and one that not only speaks of the size of our country but also of the dedication of all Canadians – carrying the flame, celebrating its passage and helping to make the Olympics a success that will speak for Canadians all around the world!

When we hear about the 2010 Olympics we think of a large city, a long way off – probably not in the travel plans of many from our area. But having the torch run through this part of Southwestern Ontario brings home to us that even though Vancouver will host the Games this Olympics is truly Canadian.

Special thanks to Lynne Frank for braving the elements to take these images of the Torch Relay. More of Lynne’s relay images can be found in our Gallery!
