Lightening the Load on Mother Earth by 600 Lbs.

By: (September 24, 2009)

river-cleanupSometimes when we read, see and hear all the doom and gloom stories in the media about pollution, climate change and global warming we feel like throwing up our hands in defeat.  Last weekend 17 local citizens reminded us that we can make a difference,  one act at a time,  by giving up a sunny Sunday to collect garbage in and around the Teeswater River.

Covering a distance of 10 Kms from east of town to the 10th Concession bridge as part of the TD Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup, the crew were able to remove a pickup load of garbage from the river – more than 600 lbs worth!

Participating in the cleanup were Randy & Diane Lieber, Lou Grubb, Sharon Yorke, Richard Elliot, Dave Gamble, Darren and Carly Frank, Dean, Sam and Ben Netzke, Ken Maronets, Robert and Nicole McKee, Shannon Wood and Jo-Anne Harbinson of the Saugeen Conservation Authority and Myron McKee.

Thanks also to the Municipality of South Bruce,  The Saugeen Conservation Authority,  Bruce Resource Stewardship Network,  Gay Lea and the TD Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup organization for their help in making the river cleanup possible.

From Myron McKee “Thanks again and Let’s do this again next year! Let’s work our way right down to Paisley!
