Wild and Woolly!
By: Mark W. Law (October 14, 2008)
When you think of sports and hobbies, from the last second touchdowns to wild hockey fights and even the odd dustup in the Major Leaguess, it might be surprising to find that one of the fast growing hobbies in the world is…
KNITTING! That's Right!… KNITTING!
Around the world, women, MEN and even children are picking up needles and balls of yarn and clicking away to their hearts content. In fact in some countries in Europe, knitting has been re-introduced into the school curriculum!
At the forefront of this wave are a group of Canadian knit designers with names like The Sweet Sheep and The Yarn Harlot, creating patterns with a truly Canadian flare that are desirable around the world.
Riding the crest to an even further dimension is Teeswater's own Lori Law, who while admittedly not a household name in this area, is watched by thousands of knitting enthusiasts around world, not only for her unique patterns but also for her hand-dyed wools and silks designed to complement her patterns. Proof of her growing popularity was a recent order for merino wool and patterns from KAZAKHSTAN!
And how about the woollen shop in England that upon receipt of a large order last month emailed Lori immediately… it seems that the ENTIRE order had been purchased in the first 4 hours on the shelves!
Published in a number of major knitting magazines and anthologies, Lori continues to work quietly at building her reputation for quality hand-dyed wools and silks, in true Canadian fashion!

Originally from the wee hamlet of Oyster Bay, BC, Mark has worked in many parts of the world, including almost all of the Canadian provinces, the United States, Europe and even a sand-filled radio station in North Africa. During that time he has written for military and local newspapers, served as editor for a number of online magazines as well as publishing his own popular ezine for new writers and artists – The ThinWire Journal. Mark has also penned more than 100 poems and essays and is an internationally known digital artist. And for anyone who lived in Northern BC during the 1980’s and 1990’s, Mark was the ‘morning weatherman’ on CBC Radio. Opinions expressed in ‘the View’ are his own and do not necessarily reflect Teeswater or Teeswater.Ca.
